St Albans School www.stalbans.school.nz Dear Families We are delighted to inform you that as part of our Big Backyard Inquiry - Our Tūrangawaewae, we have been accepted to help with a planting project organised by the Christchurch City Council. On Friday 28 September we will be travelling to Hawkins Road, Marshland, to plant along a stream boundary on a private property. The CCC will supply the plants and tools necessary and we will be under the guidance of Hamish Fairbairn, the Project Officer for Conservation Volunteers. Hamish will show us the area for planting, give us a demonstration and then children (in groups with an adult) will begin the planting. There will be 2000 plants available and our challenge is to get them all planted! As this activity is near a stream we need a 1:4 adult/child ratio. On this trip we are eager to have as many parents as possible helping and this will be a wonderful hands on activity for everyone. The children will need to have:
The CCC will supply a toilet and handbasin and a BBQ to cook sausages for lunch. We will also require some parents to cook the sausages for lunch. We will travel by bus and will need one parent per class to take their car as an emergency vehicle. Can you please return the permission form to school and let us know if you are able to help on the trip. Thanks Nicky, Kim and Nikki. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hawkins Road Planting Child’s name___________________________ Class: Tōtara 1 Tōtara 2 Tōtara 3 Yes - I give my child permission to attend the Hawkins Road Planting trip No - I do not give my child permission to attend the Hawkins Road Planting trip Signed:______________________________ I am able to help on the trip Name:_______________________________ Mobile number:_______________________ I am able to take my car / I would like to travel by bus I have completed the volunteer form at the beginning of the year/I need to complete the volunteer form
