Tuesday 21st April 2020 Message for children: Morena children. It was lovely to see so many of you on our Zoom meeting yesterday. We were amazed by how much you have all grown! Thank you for all the great learning you are doing at home - we love seeing the photos of all your great work. Message for whānau: Good morning families. Thank you for staying connected with us during our School from Home learning. All the teaching and learning that you are doing with your children is wonderful - please pace yourselves and do what suits your family. Our next Zoom meeting will be on Wednesday at 10.30am. We will put the children on mute at the beginning of the session, while we share information, then will unmute the children as they have their turn to talk. Today we are providing the following opportunities for learning... Literacy Design your own planet After watching the Mystery Doug video below use this worksheet as a template to design your own planet. Be as creative as you want to be! If you are unable to print the worksheet off you can write up each section as a heading in your writing book. Reading Listen to the story, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge from story online. Can you describe your most favourite memory? What made it so special? Who was with you? You could choose to show this either in a piece of writing, a comic strip, an image with labels, digitally or by making a poster. (maybe you have your own idea?) If you can’t remember the group you are in, please contact your teacher. Ms Scadden’s Spellers Essential word list 2 Spelling Follow up Activity Blue vowels - write each of your spelling words. You will need a blue coloured pencil. Trace over the vowels in each word with your blue pencil. Vowels = a e i o u Numeracy Basic facts practice Practice your basic facts using the Basic Facts icon under Numeracy heading on the School from Home tab. Select the correct stage for your maths class: Mrs Simmons - Stage 2-3 Miss Schollum - Stage 2-3 If you get all of these correct, give Stage 4 a try. If you didn’t complete all of the activities in the first circle yesterday, click on it again and it will take you back to where you left off. Choose one to learn this week Visual Art Tissue Box Monsters You probably have empty tissue boxes lying around the house already. Can you turn one into a crazy monster? If not, could you find some materials to make a box shape? When you're done, use pom-poms or screwed up paper to "feed" the monster. Turn it into a minute-to-win-it game by seeing how many pom-poms players can toss into the monster's mouth in 60 seconds. Science & Technology Watch the Mystery Doug video below and then follow it up with the writing template Mystery Doug - Living on the Moon We are still working on the STEM challenge for the week - make a paper plane and fly it the furthest. You can do research before on how to make the best-folded plane and experiment with variables to make it the best. You could even make more than one or as a family, each make one and see which is best. Helping hands This week see if you have time, choose some activities listed here to help out at home.
